Sussex CountyHome22nd AugustLost 2:5A difficult day: we had a white-wash in the morning, so needed to win all 4 games in the afternoon, and given that our opponents handicaps were all lower than ours always a little unlikely.
After the first two matches finished with wins this was actually looking plausible, but John G had one of his balls pegged out and although he strived mightily getting a few hoops he lost in the end. Jon had chances against Luc, but make a final blunder and lost by just a few hoops as time was about to run out.

Morning: Jon Diamond (0.5) and John Greenwood (1.5) lost to Luc Berthouze (-1) and Tudor Jenkins (0) -5t, Alex Jardine (3.5) lost to Daphne Gaitley (2.5) and John Hobbs (4) lost to Peter Pullin (1)

Afternoon: Jon lost to Luc -4, John G lost to Tudor -3, Alex beat Peter +8 and John H beat Daphne +8

RamsgateAway15th JuneLost 3:4Some dampness in the morning, despite the forecast, clearly affected us with two losses in the singles. Given the lateness of the hour the Doubles was pegged down in a poor situation for us (6 and 6 versus Penult and Rover) with 30 minutes to go, so that lunch could be taken, and it would be continued only if the match were tied at the end of the second round.

As luck would have it the afternoon weather improved and clearly improved our play. We won the first 3 games to finish, but Geoff couldn’t quite overcome Joyce with her 7 bisques and lost by 6 when time expired.

So, back to the Doubles and gradually we gained control, with John getting to Rover and so it was all over to Geoff again! With time called he was 3 hoops behind, but managed only to make a 2 hoop break, so lost by 1 on time.

As close an overall result as could be wished!

John Hobbs (4) & Geoff Croxford (7) lost to Tim Setcheu (10) & Joyce Slawson (14) -1t
Jon Diamond (1) lost to Lee Ault (8) -7, Mick Belcham (5) beat Charlie Martin (3.5) +20

Jon beat Charlie +11, John beat Lee +8, Mick beat Tim +7, Geoff lost to Joyce -6

DulwichHome27th JuneWon 4:3Dulwich failed to send their best players, so we managed to get a narrow win; no doubt helped by our still just a little soggy lawns.

Jon beat Simon 7-5, 7-6; John G beat Paul 7-2, 7-6; John H beat Peter 7-6, 7-4; Duncan lost to David 4-7, 7-3, 4-7

Sussex County BHome25th JulyLost 2:5A decent day as we waited for the traffic delayed team from Southwick and we played decently well in the morning, coming up with a 2-1 lead at lunch-time. However, we obviously ate too well and lost all 4 afternoon games, albeit closely in the third game in each…
Jon Diamond (-1) & John Greenwood (1) beat Ian Cobbold (0) and Robin Wooton (0) 7-5, 7-3; John Hobbs (1) beat Jonathan Isaacs 7-4, 4-7, 7-6; Dunca Cox (4) lost to Clive Horton (1) 7-6, 3-7, 1-7
Jon lost to Robin 7-5, 2-7, 6-7 John Greenwood lost to Ian 7-5, 5-7, 6-7; John lost to Clive 5-7, 7-5, 5-7; Duncan lost to Jonathan 3-7, 7-4, 5-7
Sussex County AAway8th AugustLost 1:6Unfortunately, Jon Diamond had to withdraw at the last moment, being replaced by Jeff Chapman, so we were a bit underpowered and only won the doubles.

SECF Golf Level Restricted League – 2 wins, 2 losses

MedwayHome16th MayWon 7:0We opened our seasons league fixtures with an Restricted League match verses Medway.

Our team of Geoff Croxford (cpt), Duncan Cox, Jeff Chapman and Richard Mann recorded a comfortable 7-0 victory but as our team had a total handicap of 16(the lower limit) and the visitors 40 it was only to be expected, none the less its nice to start with a win.

Sussex CountyHome6th JuneLost 2:4On the first really lovely day of summer our R League team entertained Sussex County in what turned out to be a very long and close fought contest.

Duncan and Derek started with a win in the doubles whilst Barney lost his singles. In the other singles Richard Mann had an epic struggle with his very slow opponent and eventually with it at one game each we called them in for lunch

After lunch Duncan lost in his final game 7-6 whilst Derek lost but Richard had a good win and so the score stood at 3-2 in a best of 7 match. However time was rolling on and eventually it was decided that the game between Barney and the very slow opposition player would be decided over the next 2 hoops. At that stage Barney was 3-2 up, but he lost the next two hoops to lose and with the score 4-2 we did not ask Richard to finish his first match.

SurbitonHome18th JulyWon 4:2We played Surbiton on a very hot Monday morning.
The morning comprised of one doubles in which Duncan Cox and Richard Mann lost and two singles which Mike Sander and John Skates – a last minute call up – both won.
At lunch it was therefore 2-1 to us and after lunch John quickly made it 3-1. It took Richard rather longer but he also won his singles to ensure we won the match, which was just as well as Duncan lost his singles.
This left Mike Sander who, after losing the first game, won the second to be all square (the only match of the day to go to 3 games) but as the overall result was already decided, and it was very hot, it was decided to call it a day.

IvychurchAway20th JuneDraw 1:1We travelled to Ivychurch in heavy rain and it got no better.
We started with two doubles matches in the first of which Lister and Duncan lost 7-5 but in the second Barbara and Bob won 6-5 after being timed out.

This proved very fortuitous as, despite taking an early lunch – excellent as usual – the weather did not improve and with the score at 1-1 it was decided to call a halt allowing each side to record the result as a draw.
