- Are you looking for an original, fun, hospitality idea this summer?
- Organising an afternoon or evening out for the office?
- Try croquet!
A croquet party in the pleasant surroundings of our Club could provide the perfect answer for groups of between 6 and 32 players; up to 50 people including spectators.
It’s ideal for either private or corporate entertainment. Men and women, young and old, play on equal terms and it’s something that everybody can do, regardless of fitness level.
NUMBERS | Usually a minimum of 4 people (but note the minimum charge below), with up to 24 people playing simultaneously. We can accommodate more non-players though – we have had 50 people on one occasion.
We need confirmed numbers and payment one week before the event, to ensure that we have enough coaches for everyone who’s going to turn up. |
EQUIPMENT | We’ll set up the lawns, provide all the equipment and have somebody on hand to show you what to do. The only thing your guests will need to bring is suitable shoes, such as trainers. |
FACILITIES | We’ve got a pavilion with toilets, locked storage for handbags etc., small kitchen area and club room. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants nearby to go on to afterwards. |
HOSTING | It only takes a few minutes to teach you and your guests the basics of Golf Croquet (how to swing a mallet and to go through hoops) and suggest some devious tactics to outwit your opponents.
We provide one of our members for each 4-8 players to show you the game and be on hand for any questions as you play. |
COMPETITIONS | Games can be arranged to suit everyone’s wishes. They can be arranged on a friendly basis, where guests can choose to play as much or as little as they wish, or competitively in the form of mini-tournaments which we can organise for you.
Perhaps you’ll want to provide a suitable prize for the winners (and losers)? Anyway, you tell us how competitive you want it to be. |
DRESS | Dress as you like, but players must wear flat soled shoes – trainers or similar. Women/Girls: if you want to keep pace with the guys, we suggest you wear slacks or shorts – it’s not easy to play in a tight skirt or long skirt/dress! (But the TV programme Bridgerton suggests that a long dress is not really a problem!!) Absolutely no stilettos or wedges though. |
TIMES | We suggest a minimum of 2 hours, from May to September. Evening sessions can start up to 5:30 or 6pm (6:30pm in June or July). In September we only run morning and afternoon sessions as sunset is so early.
Please check our diary for dates already allocated before asking about a potential booking. We do not normally allow bookings when our regularly scheduledsessions take place: Tuesday evenings (from 6pm), Wednesday afternoons (1pm-5pm), Saturdays (10am-2pm) and Sunday afternoons (1pm-5pm). |
FOOD AND DRINK | I’m afraid we do not provide catering. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, or use an external caterer, but ask you to take left over rubbish away with you. |
COST |
The cost depends on numbers and duration:
These fees include the exclusive use of one or more lawns (depending on numbers) and include us providing coaches/mentors. If your event occupies more than one lawn during one of our regularly scheduled (club) sessions, so that we have to cancel this, then the charge will be increased by 40% from the above. Note: We’re not registered for VAT. Please ask for an invoice if you require this before payment. |
BOOK | We ask for a deposit of £50 when your booking is confirmed. This is non-refundable in the event of cancellation – save for bad weather when it can be re-used for an alternative booking later the same year.
We ask for confirmation of the numbers attending and payment of the balance due 7 days before the event. Payment for any additional players above the confirmed numbers is due on the day. If you fill in the booking form below we’ll send you our bank account details for payment of the deposit when we’ve agreed a date. |
We had to turn away some bookings in previous years, so why not enquire about availability early? We start taking reservations in February.
