Croquet can be a really easy game, but it really helps your enjoyment of the game if you’ve been taught the proper rules, how to hold your mallet, hit a ball properly, run hoops and make breaks.

Our one day Introduction to Croquet course provides a full introduction to the two main varieties of croquet. We’ll be running it at least twice in 2023.

Don’t worry if you know nothing about croquet – this course is designed for you! Or if you have played croquet before, perhaps in the garden, but aren’t really sure about all the rules, then come along – we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

These courses will be run by a qualified coach and last from 10am to 4pm including a break for lunch and several tutored play sessions. Please be there for coffee before 10am. The overall structure is:

AM

• How to hold a mallet, hit straight and run hoops
• Golf Croquet
• Association Croquet: two ball shots (take-offs) and simple breaks
• Simple tactics

PM

• More complex breaks
• Rushes, Drives and Rolls
• How to make life difficult for your opponent
• Starting and finishing tactics

Hopefully, other members of the club will join us for tea, so you can talk to them about the club etc.

What you need: just a pair of trainers or similar footwear, appropriate clothing for the British climate and your lunch plus drinks (the cafe in the park should be open, but queues can build up if it’s a nice day, and the schedule is tight).

Tea and coffee are included in the price.

A free follow up session will be run at a mutually agreeable later date for those who’ve joined the club, to take you into more detail on shots, tactics and strategies.
