Mary Rose v Roehampton – lost 2:5

Roehampton’s Croquet Clubhouse – very posh!

We returned to the Croquet England Mary Rose competition for the first time in 20 years and it was the first trip to Roehampton for many of us. Here’s a view of their splendid lawns (and the planes flying overhead every 90 seconds or less).

The lawns are very flat and fast, but not exceptionally so this year, so in theory we should have coped. However, we couldn’t get started and lost all three games in the morning by a considerable margin.

So we needed to win all four games in the afternoon, but it was not to be – we lost the first two to go 0:5 down, but got some consolation winning the final two games.
