Introduction to Croquet Courses

Croquet is a really easy game to pick up, but it really helps your enjoyment of the game if you’ve been taught how to hold your mallet, hit a ball properly, run hoops, make breaks and the proper rules!

Our one day courses cost just £40 per person, and will include light refreshments.
See our for dates.

Your first year membership fee will be reduced from £60 to £30 if you decide to join the club and pay at the end of the course.

Don’t worry if you know nothing about Croquet – these courses are designed for you! Or if you have played croquet before, perhaps in the garden, but aren’t really sure about all the rules, then come along – we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

What you need for all these courses is

  • a pair of flat soled shoes (trainers are fine),
  • your packed lunch,
  • drinks, apart from tea and coffee which we provide.

The cafe in the park should be open, as are local shops within 5 mins walk, but queues can build up in the park if it’s a nice day.

Additional coaching and introductory courses are available from the Croquet Academy at Southwick.

All courses will start at 10am and finish at 3pm or 4pm including a break for lunch and several tutored play sessions.

The overall structure of our basic Introduction to Croquet (GC) course is:

AM
– How to hold a mallet, hit straight and run hoops
– Simple tactics
– Supervised play
PM
– More supervised play

This course will teach you everything you need to know to play Golf Croquet.

Our Introduction to Croquet (AC on short lawns)  teaches you how to play Association Croquet. The structure is

AM
– Roquets and simple laws
– The croquet shot
– Take-offs
– Straight Drives
– Principles of break play
PM
– Stop and Split Shots
– Supervised play

This will build on the optional Introduction to Croquet (GC) and finish around 4pm.

We will follow this course up with regular supervised monthly AC sessions, probably on a Saturday morning.

Don’t forget to let your friends know that you’re coming, so that they can join you! It’s more fun that way.
