Another victory in tight-fought clash in the Handicap league
The latest match in the South East Croquet Federation GC Handicap League against Caterham ended in a 5-4 victory.
Having lost our captain to an unfortunate and season-threatening injury, the team of Derek Owens, Trevor Houghton-Berry, Kate Sander and David Pratt were determined to retain our unbeaten record in the competition in his honour.
This we did, with a particularly fine performance from the debutant David, who won all three of his matches in great style, supported by individual wins from the rest of the team under grey skies and persistent drizzle.
David’s magnificent performance meant we finished the match in time for a late lunch – excellent Cater-ing from Cater-ham, which was very much appreciated by all!
With one match remaining before the end of the season, can we remain unbeaten? Unfortunately as our star player inadvertently left his mallet behind after the excellent shepherds’ pie lunch, we worry we may be defeated by a ‘technicality’…. would Ben Stokes still be able to perform his heroics for the England cricket team, if he mislaid his bat?! Time will tell……
