David Beddy wins Pegasus Plate
Competitors came from as far and wide as York, Manchester and London for this prestigious tournament, Ignoring lesser sporting events such as Wimbledon. Thankfully, the weather also pitched up at an acceptable 25 degrees.
On day one David Beddy (Bowdon) was in fine form making mincemeat of the fancied local contenders Thomas Cullis and Timothy Luke. David held it together to make several classy breaks from hoop one to peg. Despite a sore back Roger Gentry played on resolutely and won his first two matches. For John Harris (York), this weekend was one of close but no cigar, losing four matches by three or less hoops. Peter Haydon (Dulwich) can count himself very unlucky as David Beddy stormed back after time with an unprecedented two ball break through multiple hoops to steal the win.
On day two old hand John Greenwood stepped in for Roger to put young upstart Thomas Cullis back in his box with a commanding 16-point win. Recovering from a 40th wedding anniversary party the night before David Beddy needed a win in. his last match with John Harris. In was nip and tuck but David Beddy prevailed to take the match and with it the spoils.
Congratulations to David Beddy on the title, a worthy winner.
Thanks to everyone for travelling and we hope to see you back next year.
