Defeat at Purley Bury

We made an inauspicious start to our season in the Croquet South-East Golf Croquet Handicap league, losing 6-3 at Purley Bury on 12 May.

The opening round of two doubles was shared, with Derek Owens and Dave Grimshaw recording a win in their game but Purley Bury took a convincing lead from round 2, winning three of the four singles games – Trevor Houghton-Berry scoring our only win. (Derek specifically asked me not to mention the score in his game 😊)

After the lunch break, Derek secured another doubles victory, paired with Denis Cruse but Trevor and Dave both lost their singles games, to complete a 6-3 win overall for the home side.
