Defeat to Cheam in sweltering heat

We suffered our third defeat in succession in the Croquet South-East Golf Croquet Handicap league, losing 6-3 at home to Cheam on 30 June, with heat beating all-time records.

The opening round of two doubles was shared, with Kate Sander and Dave Grimshaw recording a 7-1 win in their game but Purley Bury took a convincing lead from round 2, winning three of the four singles games – Dave scoring our only win.

After the lunch break, Trevor Houghton-Berry secured a win in his singles game, but Dave lost his singles game, whilst Kate and Robert Hassell lost their doubles, to complete a 6-3 win overall for the visitors.
