Opening Day a great success!
Our traditional Opening Day was even more successful than usual with more than 25 people attending.
The lawns are in mostly good condition and the weather was even occasionally sunny, if a little chillier than desirable.
The main event of the morning was our heat for the Croquet Association charity One Ball event. This year it was in aid of MIND and we had 13 participants, raising a record total of £260 (including lunch contributions from non-players).
This entitles us to three places at the Southern Final at Surbiton on 8th May. The overall winner was Jon Savage with a blemish-free record. Second was Dan Crocombe with 4 wins from 5 games and third was Kate Sander with 2 wins from 3 games.
Kate also provided a fantastic Soup & Ploughmans lunch, which went down really well with members and their families and was suitably warming.
In the afternoon more than a dozen people turned up to play Golf Croquet.
An excellent day was had by all – all lawns are now fully open for play at any time.
