TW start with win in Handicap league

Tunbridge Wells started their South East Croquet Federation Golf Croquet Handicap League season with a narrow win at Dulwich on Monday 3 July.

TW started slowly, losing both doubles matches in the opening round. However we performed strongly in the second round, winning three of the four singles matches, with wins for Trevor Houghton-Berry, Derek Owens and Michael Sander. That left the overall match score level at 3-3 at lunchtime.

The afternoon session comprised two singles matches and one doubles. The singles matches were shared, one apiece, with Trevor again winning for TW. Those matches finished quickly, leaving the overall match result hinging on a hard-fought doubles game. Eventually TW edged ahead, 6-5, and captain Dave Grimshaw ran the winning hoop to secure a win in the game and an overall 5-4 win in the match.
