SECF U league v Canterbury – we squeak a win 4:3

In the Home AC match on July 1, the RTW team again lead 3-nil at lunch-time, but this time had to survive a powerful comeback from Canterbury until Tom Carpenter won the final game by 2 hoops on time to break the 3-3 deadlock.

The morning doubles featured a Canterbury pair strangely reluctant to use their six bisque turns until it was really too late, Mick survived a Quadruple Peel attempt from Jonathan to win his first game of the year and Richard went to time in a nip-and-tuck game that eventually went his way.

The excellent lunch (many thanks to Shirley) however seemed to invigorate the visitors and Alex soon succumbed to a tidy Triple Peel with a bisque-and-a-half left standing. Both Mick and Richard then lost fairly conclusively and it was left to Tom to come from four hoops behind with half-an-hour to play and get four hoops ahead. We then lived through a nail-biting final attempt from John Millen (formerly of our neighbours Medway) in his time turn, ending with a miss just two hoops short.
