Richard Brooks wins the Montevideo Cup for the Fourth Time

A field of 10 players competed for this one day level GC event on 11th May, with handicaps ranging from -1 to 5. The weather was glorious but also quite draining by the end of the day.

The format was two blocks of 5 with some cross block games, followed by a semi-final and a final.

In Block A, Richard Brooks (Sussex County) was the undisputed winner in his block with an unblemished record, with Jon Diamond (Tunbridge Wells) as runner-up with 3 wins. The other block finished with Dan Crocombe (Tunbridge Wells) on top with 4 wins and Mark Buckley (Leicester)  finishing with 3 wins. This was a very good result for Dan as he was the highest handicap player in the group.

The semi-finals went according to handicap, albeit after some close games, with Richard and Jon contesting the final.

Mark and Dan had a close game for third place which Mark took on the golden hoop which left the final to be decided.

The game started very nip and tuck until Richard took a 5 – 3 lead. Jon fought back to take the game to the final hoop where Richard held his nerve to take the trophy!
