Defeat at Canterbury

We suffered an agonizing defeat in our second match of the season in the Croquet South-East Golf Croquet Handicap league, losing 5-4 at Canterbury on 29 June.

We started well, winning both games in the opening round of two doubles with narrow victories for David Pratt & Denis Cruse and Peter Player & Dave Grimshaw. However Canterbury won three of the four singles games in round 2 – David Pratt scoring our only win – leaving the match score tied 3-3 at the lunch break.

The final set of games comprises two singles and one doubles. Dave Grimshaw secured a win in his singles game, but David Pratt lost his to leave us tied 4-4, whilst the doubles game continued. Unfortunately, Peter & Denis and David were unable to secure the win, losing at the final hoop, resulting in a 5-4 win for the home side.
