Surbiton Open Advanced
This item opens not with a tournament report, but Reg Bamford demonstrating his swing trainer at Surbiton. He didn’t play in the tournament but practiced for at least an hour a day for the 4 days of the Bank Holiday weekend on a spare lawn! The noise he made when he regularly hit the peg from 14 yards full ball was quite intense. The trainer itself breaks apart, packs into a golf bag and the next iteration will cost $2500 and weigh 5kg, so very portable. I assume it will travel with him to the World Championships (AC or GC).
I won my first game against Andy Dibben, which gained me enough points so that my five subsequent losses took me back to exactly where I started. One of my losses was notable, because my opponent Robin Brown claimed his 500th triple peel (i haven’t made any yet).
Oh, by the way, the lawns were excellent for the time of year (best that I remember) and Samir Patel as manager had to present the trophy for winning the tournament to himself, with 6 wins from 6 games.
